There’s no place in the world like a college campus in spring. The combination of excited young people and pollen, perhaps.
Among my favorite memories of ministry were the impromptu ultimate frisbee games on the quad or the disc golf tournament in the woods near campus.
Nothing beats the new beginning that is spring. It’s like God is rebooting his creation after a long winter.
Does your life need a reboot? I know mine does. I know many of the readers of this blog are hurting, in the midst of some of the most trying times of their lives.
The money is running out. The bills need paying, and the kids are growing out of their clothes. Many of you don’t know how you are going to make rent next month. You’ve doubted your calling, and worse.
Trust me, I’ve been there. So the next paragraph doesn’t come from some ivory tower or blind naiveté. It’s real talk from somebody familiar with the trenches, and it’s the thing I need to hear every day:
The gospel is true. The resurrection actually happened. The tomb is actually empty. As we barrel down the road toward Easter, and watch all of creation literally sprout to life around us, we can take great comfort in the fact that Jesus is alive, and aware of our needs.
He’s never made a mistake. That’s the first line on his résumé: perfect.
So crack a window, enjoy a cool spring breeze, and relax. God hasn’t taken a day off. But maybe you should.
